A method for forming a tube of square cross-section in which the corners of the end portions of the tube are axially displaced comprising the steps of: modifying one end portion of the tube such that it has a circular cross-section; and reforming the circular portion of the tube back into generally a square cross-section or polygonal cross-section of which the corners are axially displaced from the unmodified end of the tube.
