Description

This innovation aims to explore the application of AgNPs as a wound healing material, replacing traditional therapeutic agents such as antibiotics and bandages for wound recovery. Alginate (Alg) and Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) are commonly used for the formation of hydrogels. However, this type of hydrogel shows poor mechanical strength and should be incorporated with any reinforcement materials to improve the stability and control release of AgNPs. We successfully formulated Alg hydrogels incorporated with reinforcement material, cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) and AgNPs to form AgBiotics Mighty Patch. This hydrogel patch demonstrates excellent biocompatibility and can achieve a sustainable release of silver ions, ensuring long-term antibacterial activity and inhibiting biofilm formation. This in return will repair and accelerate the wound healing process.

Highlights

AgBiotics Mighty Hydrogel Patch is applicable on the wound site on the skin. Due to its flexibility, it can be applied to the arbitrary wound. Sustainable release of AgNPs to the wound site will prevent bacterial infection and pus formation. This will accelerate the wound-healing process and prevent the development of antibiotic resistance bacteria. To date, there are no therapeutic patches developed using alginate, CNC, and AgNPs available in the market. Most of the wound healing patches available currently are chemically synthesized. Therefore, this product has a high potential to penetrate the pharmaceutical market as this patch is biodegradable with enhanced properties for wound healing.
