Description

SmartCycle Biofuel is a system that is able to turn food waste into electricity. It utilizes the biogas which is released from food waste and other organic waste to create electricity. First, the food waste is mixed with water to form a sludge-like substance. Next, the sludge is transported to the settling tank. The biogas methane is emitted from the food waste after it goes through a process called anaerobic digestion which usually takes around 10 days. The methane gas is then transported to a separate level to be stored. Before it is stored, it goes through a filtration tank in order to filter out the carbon dioxide gas. The remaining sludge can be used as fertilizer. Methane gas contains a high amount of carbon and hydrogen, which when burned will create hot air. The heat is used to boil water and the high-temperature steam flow from the boiling water will then be used to push a turbine to create kinetic energy, which can be turned into electrical energy.

Highlights

  1. Waste-to-Energy Conversion: It turns food waste and organic waste into a valuable energy source by producing electricity, contributing to sustainable waste management.
  2. Anaerobic Digestion: Through a natural process, the system uses anaerobic digestion to break down waste and generate methane gas within approximately 10 days.
  3. Biogas Filtration: Methane gas is filtered to remove carbon dioxide before being stored, ensuring a cleaner combustion process.
  4. Energy Efficiency: The methane is burned to produce steam, which drives a turbine to generate kinetic energy, efficiently converting it into electricity.
  5. Eco-Friendly Fertilizer: The leftover sludge after digestion can be repurposed as fertilizer, supporting agricultural productivity and reducing waste further.
