Description
The present invention provides a method of sensing the refractive index or temperature of a predetermined liquid utilizing a plurality of nanostructures comprising of a plurality of lamellae and interstitial gaps disposed on a sample scaled wing portion of a Morpho butterfly wing, provided the liquid fills a volume defined by the interstitial gaps between the plurality of lamellae and can thus wet the surface of the sample scaled wing portion.
