Description

The IEEE 802.11 Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol continues to suffer from throughput degradation when directly applied in multihop network such as mesh like topology. This project proposes a set of enhancement to the existing IEEE 802.11 MAC by enabling concurrent transmission by the exposed nodes and reduces the amount of signaling packets (CSS-MAC) required at every hop until the data packet reaches its destination. Such as approach is believed to reduce the latency, thus improve the throughput and the current speed of the network. The multihop network performances are evaluated in terms of throughput and delay. This adaptive concurrent MAC protocol outperforms the existing IEEE MAC in overall throughput of multihop mesh network.
