A new design of the electronic wedge brake (EWB) mechanism is designed as a brake actuator and this mechanism is proposed as efforts to replace and to overcome the shortcomings of the conventional hydraulic brake system. The proposed electronic wedge brake system consists of piston wedge mechanism, worm gar and an electric motor. Rotational motion of the worm gear which is driven by the electric motor will activate the wedge mechanism causing the piston to displace linearity. Linear displacement of the piston will generate clamping force between brake pads and the disk and also produce brake torque if the wheel is rotating. Electronic wedge brake (EWB) system is developed and its behavior is investigated using brake test rig. Various type of input is used to validated the proposed brake actuator before apply to normal braking system.
