Description

Potaringa Paste is a sustainable, ready-to-use & nutritious Therapeutic Food. It is a transformative solution designed to address the immediate nutritional needs of refugees and homeless people in Malaysia while simultaneously combating the issue of agricultural waste. Based on the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Malaysia is home to approximately 185,760 registered refugees, with a significant number being women and children. Globally 1/5 of kids under the age of 5 die due to malnutrition. This innovative paste is made from surplus vegetables and "ugly vege", particularly potatoes and moringa leaves. We sourced it from local farmers who often discard them due to oversupply and aesthetic imperfections. With an estimated 1.2 million tonnes of agricultural waste generated in 2020 alone, it is crucial to harness these surplus resources to combat hunger and malnutrition. This fills the gap by offering a convenient, nutritious, and affordable solution. By repurposing these overlooked resources, Potaringa Paste provides a rich source of essential vitamins, minerals, and carbohydrates to individuals in need. We are also creating a "crowd-sourcing" of kindness by introducing the buy-to-donate concept. People like me and you, can now easily spread love and kindness by just subscribing to our variety of packages based on the quantity and timeframe (eg: monthly, weekly). Once done, we will be sending the Potaringa immediately to the needy or the refugee camps.

Highlights

POTARINGA is made from oversupplied vegetables in Malaysia. Cabbage, lettuce, spinach, cauliflower, and many more vegetables are among those that are most overproduced in Malaysia. These vegetables are in high demand due to their ease of production and ability to be produced in large quantities. For our first product, we decided to use potatoes and moringa leaves from local farmers. STEP 1: The two main causes of agricultural waste in Malaysia are oversupply and ugly vegetables. Oversupply is a significant issue in Malaysia's agriculture industry. Agriculture waste results from farmers producing more food than can be consumed. Certain vegetables are just not seen as being attractive enough to sell is another significant factor contributing to agricultural waste in Malaysia. This frequently occurs with veggies that are not precisely the right size or form. Despite being completely edible, these veggies are frequently thrown. Potaringa Paste will provide nutrition values containing vitamins C, A, K, E, beta-carotene, folate, B1, B2, B3, B5, and B6, as well as minerals such as iron, magnesium, potassium, zinc, calcium, phosphorus, and sodium. To make sure that we have continuous supply a few strategy has been planned. First, we will be creating a Value Chain Collaboration with other stakeholders in the potato value chain, such as processors, distributors, and retailers. By doing this we can coordinate the supply more efficiently. The second will be Contract Farming, here we will be collaborating with farmers through contract farming agreements. This allows us to secure a dedicated supply of potatoes by entering into long-term agreements with farmers. It provides stability and ensures a consistent supply. STEP 2: After collection from the farmers that collaborated with us, we will then transport it to our warehouse to proceed with the cleaning process. We will be using an industrial potato puree machine called Urschel. This machine is designed to efficiently puree large quantities of potatoes into a smooth consistency. This machine typically consists of a feed hopper where the potatoes are loaded, followed by a series of rotating cutting disks or blades that slice and puree the potatoes. STEP 3: After the pureed potatoes & moringa leaf are discharged through an outlet, we would then proceed to package. All the puree will be packaged in a sachet packaging and bottle. For the buy to donate we will be sending the sachet type of Potaringa to the homeless and refugee camps.
