The present invention relates to an improved method and system for network traffic padding which utilizes dual flow approach for use in preventing traffic analysis. The method comprises the steps of transmitting a stream of dummy ciphertext at a flow rate between a transmitting node and a receiving node; ceasing, for a predetermined cease period, transmission of the stream of dummy ciphertext; transmitting a stream of actual ciphertext at the said flow rate between the transmitting node and the receiving node during the predetermined cease period; and re-transmitting the stream of dummy ciphertext at the said flow rate between the transmitting node and the receiving node. The transmission of the stream of dummy ciphertext and the stream of actual ciphertext and the transition therebetween are timely executed at the said flow rate in a continuous and constant manner using a timing device such that no data gap is created along the data communication network.
