Description

Every age group strives for good skin. The face serum has been the optimal topical formulation for delivering active ingredients to the skin. However, the synthetic materials used in these led to skin irritations, redness, and itching. The environment is also harmed by these. Mangosteen has recently demonstrated potential as an anti-acne component. A safe topical formulation of mangosteen face serum has been created to provide anti-acne benefits. In addition, the formulation also uses excipients derived from natural resources. As a result, using the product is safe for both the user and the environment. The formulation's IC50 value for antioxidant capabilities is about 0.019 mg/ml, which is higher than the active ingredient's IC50 value of 0.075 mg/ml and ascorbic acid's 0.025 mg/ml. Based on redispersion and pH (4.71), the formulation's stability exhibited no unfavorable outcomes. Its spreadability was 6-7 cm, and its occlusive characteristics were roughly 48%. Additionally, it demonstrated activity against Staphylococcus aureus with a 15.43 mm zone of inhibition. According to an in vitro investigation, the face serum may infiltrate the skin after 15 minutes of application. The water-based lotion absorbs right away into the skin without leaving a greasy residue that is unpleasant.

Highlights

Highlighted Features

1) The natural face serum is an anti-acne treatment.

2) Used 100% natural ingredients to produce the face serum

3) The formulation is alcohol, SLS, paraben, microplastic, and animal cruelty free.

4) This product is made considering the sustainable development goal of the United Nations.

5) The face serum is developed from the extract of mangosteen peel. Description Introduction: Mangosteen extract possesses the therapeutic activities needed to provide skin anti-acne protection through its antioxidant and antibacterial activities against acne-causing bacteria. But most commercial mangosteen serums are not 100% natural, as they contain excipients of synthetic origin. Objective: This project aims at developing a 100% natural mangosteen (Mag Fix) face serum for topical use that will exhibit anti-acne properties. The study also includes evaluating the product for its physiochemical properties. Production: Based on their physical characteristics, the components in the Mag Fix face serum were organized into three phases. Mangosteen peel extract was added in the last phase. The components were incorporated into the formulation in a particular amount within pharmacological ranges. The phases were developed using the same parameters with magnetic stirring. The room temperature was used to avoid any chemical degradation. The final formulation was homogenized to achieve a smooth, homogenous texture. The sample formulations were stored in amber containers. The prepared Mag Fix face serum was evaluated for the following physiochemical properties: Color: It was a yellowish brown throughout the storage period. Phase Stability and pH: There was no phase separation observed throughout the storage period, both visually and in the redispersion study by centrifugation. The formulation was within the skin's pH range (4.71). Hence, it is free of any skin irritation. Ingredient Compatibility: The FTIR study didn't show any chemical reaction between the active ingredient and the excipients. Therefore, their compatibility was confirmed. Antioxidant Properties: According to the DPPH test, our product was able to show an IC50 of about 0.019 mg/ml. Compared to API (0.075 mg/ml), the result was satisfactory. Utilizing the excipients like vitamin C and aloe vera boosted the antioxidant capacity of the product. Antibacterial Activity: It showed antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. In-vitro Occlusive Test: The test result showed a prevention of moisture loss of around 48%. It also moisturized the skin and gave it a soothing feeling after application. Long-Term Stability Studies: The samples were evaluated in terms of their color, pH, and stability of the formulation phases during a six-month storage period. Conclusions: Developing a Mag Fix face serum formulation that uses natural excipients is the safest way for the consumer to utilize the anti-acne benefits. The increasing danger of microplastics in the environment and public health is an indicator of how this project will benefit society's health and environment. The products are made without expensive ingredients or machines. As a result, everyone will be able to afford them once they are commercialized. With further in-vivo analysis, these products can be modified more and developed with increased efficacy and stability.
