All of us will experience an abrasion or a cut at some point. In Malaysia, sea cucumber or commonly known as ‘Gamat’ is frequently used, especially among the Malay older generation to treat minor wounds in daily usage. However, the younger generation seems to prefer the use of plaster/wound dressing to cover the wound as a mean for efficient healing. Herein, this innovation aims to bridge the generation’s preference in treating wound by combining Gamat and medical plaster in single product. Thus, we have formulated a composite carboxymethylcellulose (CMC)-polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) polymeric film containing Gamat extract. The developed film can be translated into the wound pad in the fabrication process of medical plaster for wound healing. Most of the commercial products based on gamat are in the form of ointment, cream, hydrogel and balm. Thus, this is the first invention that relates the formulation of Gamat extract in the form of wound dressing.
