Description
The present invention provides a method to fabricate hybrid SnO2/ZnO nanostructures via an efficient single-step method. This SnO2/ZnO core-shell nanowires and hierarchical nanostructures, and mixed oxide nanowires are fabricated via carbon assisted thermal evaporation by the vapour-solid mechanism and vapour-liquid-solid mechanism respectively. The raw materials are mixture of homogenous ZnO, SnO2 and activated carbon powders in molar ratio of 9:1:10. The mixture is transferred to a quartz boat and placed in a furnace together with a gold coated alumina substrate. After purging with argon gas, the furnace is heated up to 900°C with a constant flow of argon. Different length of growth time is applicable ranging from 15 minutes to 120 minutes for this process. Once the process is over, the SnO2/ZnO nanostructures is seen grown as a white wool-like mass at the side and on top of the quartz boat while a light gray layer is formed on the alumina substrate. The SnO2/ZnO nanostructures fabricated can be used for device applications.
