ROTADISC is a centrifugal separator designed to separate mesocarp fibers from kernel seeds (nuts) prior to oil extraction. It is equiped with rotating disc plate which is used to create a centrifugal force. Consequently, this centrifugal force creates a friction between the palm fruit and the ROTADISC wall causing the mesocarp fiber to be shredded, detached and separated from the kernel seeds.i.The ROTADISC can separate mesocarp fibers from the kernel within 30 seconds compared to using a normal digester which takes 30 minutes. ii.The advantage of ROTADISC is that it can separate mesocarp and kernel fibers by using non-sterile and sterile palm fruit. This configuration depends on the choice of ROTADISC users. iii.The separation process without the use of steam with ROTADISC can reduce the dependency of steam consumption. This process is called dry separation. Without the use of steam, the operating costs of the oil processing plant can be saved.iv.This dry separation can simplify the process of transporting the separated mesocarp and nut products from this machine using different types of conveyors and does not require any specific type of conveyor. v.The machine design and material make cleaning and maintenance process more manageable. vi.ROTADISC is made of 304 stainless steel which is safe for food products and can extend the life of the machine while meeting the standards set in the food processing industry. vii.The use of ROTADISC is automatically controlled by the Programmable Logic Control (PLC) system. viii.The operation of ROTADISC is simple and straight forward, which does not require skilled manpower in handling. ix.ROTADISC is able to separate 98% of mesocarp fibers from the kernel. So the rate of oil extraction can be increased because the fibers can be wholly squeezed without facing the problem of the broken kernel.x.ROTADISC can produce better quality CPO because it will not be contaminated with kernel oil.xi.Higher yield of kernel oil is expected due to lower kernel seeds breakage.
