The present invention relates to a three-dimensional zinc oxide nanostructure characterised by: a hexagonal three-dimensional zinc oxide nanopillar stacked of a plurality of hexagonal two-dimensional zinc oxide nanoplates; and a hexagonal pyramid formed at the top of said nanopillar. Further, a method and a system of fabricating said three-dimensional zinc oxide nanostructure also disclosed herein.
